Horse of the Year Show 2009
HOYS Photos: The Event Photographer
I'm still unable to put into words the experience of our first visit to
HOYS as competitors but needless to say we are over the moon with Sunwillow
Jubilee's result. I have to say a massive thank you to Rebecca
Jarvis-Broad who made it possible and all the members of 'Team Squid' who
traveled from all over to share the experience with us.
My sincere thanks to whoever made and posted this video
NCPA Pony of The Year Show
Squiddy is on a roll..................... NCPA ridden Section A of the
Year 2009
Showland Elite
Well 'Squid' (Sunwillow Jubilee) and Rebecca
had a pretty successful day, they won their Ridden A & B class, were
Small Breeds Champion, Gold Medal Elite Reserve Champion and ended
the day Reserve Supreme Native of the Year 2009. Somewhere in all that
they also fitted in the Stallion in hand class where 'Squid' was 1st with
his stable mate's Pernod 2nd & Dunsmore Balcarron 4th. Well done team
PPP!
Three Shires Show
Congratulations to Sam with Amilas Chikara on
winning a very strong Section A barren mare class and Digswell
Stud's being Reserve Section D Champion with 'Bucket' (Glanvyrnwy
Honey). Thank you also to everyone that supported the show.
Catch Up
Sorry the updates have been a bit slow this month and I still have no
photos (RIP scanner!) but anyway.....
The busy week Bucks County, Home Counties, Edenbridge & NPS Area 4
didn't exactly go as planned but still even the bad days are fun with good
company. It wasn't all bad news though, almost everyone came home with a
rosette for a start which in itself is an achievement, well done team! Amilas
Chikara made a return to the show ring after a long year off, as ever
shown and produced by Sam of the Glanhayl stud, Amilas
Tom Tom went to his first ever show and showed off with is tail over
his back and Squid (Sunwillow Jubilee) always
returns the smiles to our faces with his infectious enthusiasm for showing
and a good result in yet another Olympia class. The highlight/lowlight
(depends who you ask!) of the week however was my pathetic attempt to show
Pickle (Norash Beauson) who was a little
overexcited at being back in a show ring and who I promptly let go of
(again!) which has initiated an endless stream of ridicule from everyone
that will carry them well into 2010!!!
On the flip side my adopted pony 'Bucket' (Digswell
Stud's Glanvyrnwy Honey) and her foal Digswell Honeycomb had a great
day at Home Counties both winning their classes and 'Crunchie' eventually
standing Supreme foal Champion. Massive Congratulations everyone on an
amazing year with the 'girls'.
Amilas Slumberdown Moves House
'Duvet' moved to his palatial new home today. I wish Jo the very best
of luck with him and hope he will be a valuable addition to the herd.
Ponies UK Summer Championships
Squid returned from is summer holiday in fine style winning his Open
Ridden Section A class at the Ponies UK Summer Championships. This also
qualified him for the Vivenne Pratt Supreme, giving him the chance to strut his stuff in the evening performance under
the flood lights, an environment Squid loves!
NPS Summer Championships
Congratulations to Lexy Page and Amilas
Cassiopeia on a successful show, taking on all ages and sexes to be
placed 3rd in the Home Produced Final and standing top for the full
duration of their breed class to be pipped at the post into 2nd place.
Amilas
Cornelius
'a little girls best friend'
Imogen, everyone here wishes you a speedy return to full
health after your stay in hospital. I hope seeing yourself and Fudge on
the front page helps.
21st - 24th July 2009
RWAS, RIHS, Mud and Traffic Jams!
Photo: The Event Photographer
The Royal Welsh Show is still the greatest show on earth and although
it was pouring rain and knee deep in mud the ponies did us proud.
Sunwillow Jubilee and Rebecca Jarvis-Broad got
a rare chance to 'play' and with a huge grin on their faces they strutted
their stuff in the main ring on Tuesday afternoon (when there was still
some green grass) to be placed 10th and returned home with a precious RWAS
rosette.
Photo: Alexia Page
On Wednesday morning it was the chance for the junior ponies get their
chance to experience the main ring atmosphere and after the previous
afternoon of rain and harness racing it was a rather muddy experience! I
was very proud to watch Alexia Page and Amilas
Cassiopeia sired by Sunwillow Jubilee being placed 3rd in the Section
A yearling filly class. Congratulations Lexy on your result and braving
the mud.

and then to RIHS .....
For all of us this was the first trip to both the Royal International
Horse Show and Hickstead. Thanks to the traffic jam that is the M25 the
journey from RWAS too RIHS took 7 hours, 3hr more than expected and we
also seemed to take the weather with us!
After a long journey and a very short nights sleep for us all it was up
before dawn, very reluctantly in Squids case, to get ready for our 7.30am
class. Squid fed & watered and the last minute spit and polish applied
we set of the the River Lawn, located behind the world famous Hickstead
Derby bank. As the finalists peeled of the layers of wet weather gear and
entered the ring the heavens opened and so began what can only be
described as a monsoon. The class was eventful with ponies slipping,
taking off, a rider kicked and everyone involved risking hypothermia but
it was certainly an experience.
I have to say thank you to everyone who made our first RIHS such an
amazing experience. Everyone we met, from the security man who greeted us
on arrival, fellow competitors, first timers and seasons pro's who helped
us navigate the vast 'behind the scenes area', to the security guard that
waved us goodbye as we rejoined the M25 carpark for the 5hr Journey home
were amazingly friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and no
one was 'jobs worth' about anything. I can't wait for a return visit.
Its been an tiring, wet and muddy week but great fun! Thank you to
Rebecca and Justin Jarvis-Broad, and of course 'Squid' for making it
possible and sharing it with me.
12th July 2009
Thames Valley Show
Sunwillow Jubilee and Rebecca Jarvis-Broad are off to....
HOYS!!!!!
Photo: Alexia Page
What an odd day! Firstly I am watching my pony in his ridden class and
notice legendary racehorse trainer Jenny Pitman is sitting beside me and
then Squid qualifies for HOYS and then Bekx rescues a toady-froggy thing
from being run over under the lorry and then people and ponies go to the
pub!
I'm still in shock and probably under the influence of a little too
much champagne and far too much food so can't think of much to say but OMG
did today really happen??
Thank you to the each and every member of 'Team Squid'. Today is a
dream come true and I count myself lucky to have such an wonderful bunch
of people to share it with.
Rebecca Thank you for your endless dedication to Squid and Squid for
being the most incredible pony in the world.
Someone pinch me .....

4th July 2009
Northleach Welsh Breed Show
Sunwillow Jubliee had another great day out winning his Intermediate
class and being placed third in his novice working hunter pony class. As
you can see from the photo above he was making sure the 'pony eating
monster jumps' were not going to bite his legs!

28th June 2008
Derbyshire County Show
Photo: S Pragnell - Salceyderw
A lovely day was had by all on which was without a doubt the hottest
day of the year so far. Amilas Mazurkawas
totally unbothered by the extreme heat and was placed second in her Barren
Mare class.

25th June 2009
Lincolnshire County Show
Many thanks and
congratulations Liesl Burt of the Wensley
Stud for producing and showing Norash Peek-a-boo
to be placed 2nd in her Barren Mare class today
21 June 2009
Photo: Terry Capon, Hallows Stud
A Page's Amilas Cassiopeia had yet another successful day out winning her yearling
filly class and standing Section A Youngstock Champion at Southern WPCA.
To top of an excellent day she also contested the NPS home produced class,
winning her class and standing champion.
Once again congratulations Lexy.
Photo: Lesley Jeffs - Tigertotz
Squid (Sunwillow
Jubilee) as always piloted by
Rebecca Jarvis-Broad added a new string to his bow today at Clumber Park
contesting his first ever Working Hunter Class (and his first ever attempt
at jumping in public!) For a novice class the course was testing, complete
with a water tray at the second fence however Squid jumped a great clear
round, eventually standing second by just 1 mark!
A huge well done to Bex for the huge amount of time and trust she puts
in Squid and to Squid for never letting Bex down. What a team!
I also heard that Amilas Ty Gwyn found her way back into a show ring
recently and with success. Having had a horrific accident that looked to have left her permanently
unsound this is great news. Alex, Rachel and Bekx I know this is down 110%
to your patience and perseverance. You all deserve a gold
medal.
19 June 2009
Three Counties Show
Without a shadow of a doubt Three Counties was the biggest show Norash Peek-a-boo
has ever been to in her life and I am thrilled that in a massive class
full of quality she held her own being placed 4th. Many thanks and
congratulations Liesl for producing and showing her so well.
14 June 2009
We had a lovely day at Eastern Welsh with sunshine and good company. Amilas
Motet was 2nd in good company and Norash Peek-a-boo produced
and shown by Liesl Burt of the Wensley Stud looked stunning and was placed
3rd.
Massive congratulations again to Ailsa and Louise of the
Digswell Stud with Digswell Honeycomb (shown by Jason & Tara of
the Akenmill Stud) on being Reserve Supreme Foal.
Meanwhile.....
At Barlow Show Amilas Chutney was earning his keep doing three
different classes with three different riders, being placed 2nd in the
NCPA leadrein and safely taking Imogen off the lead into her first
first ridden class.
07 June 2009
Having spent two weekends of glorious weather at home the weekend I get
back to the showring it POURS rain. Unfortunately the rain meant that
Squid's WHP début had to be delayed but the In hand ponies still had to
paddle in the waterlogged rings. At least the rain revived the
strawberries!
Amilas Mazurka (Maggie) and her yearling son Amilas
Motet (Dumbo) both came home in the ribbons with Maggie on her debut
in adult classes standing second in the barren mares in good
company.
Champion Welsh Mountain Pony
Surrey County Show 2009
Congratulations to Lexy Page on a very successful day.
24 May 2009
Everyone went showing without me today whilst I spend bank holiday
Sunday like a 'normal' person trying to convince my strawberry plants not
to die even though I haven't watered them for weeks! Anyway......
Herts County
Congratulations to Ailsa and Louise of the Digswell
Stud on taking the Section D 4 & over class and the Overall Welsh
Championship with 'Bucket' aka Glanvyrnwy Honey (shown by Jason & Tara
of the Akenmill Stud) at her first ever show as a broodmare.
NPS Area 29
On yet another first this time Squid (Sunwillow
Jubilee) ridden by Rebecca Jarvis-Broad contested his first Open
Olympia Qualifier in fine style and in good company stood a very credible
2nd. This was a really special achievement as the Judge Mrs Jennie
Loriston-Clarke MBE was one of my childhood heros.
A huge well done and thank you to the whole of the Jarvis family who
not only take such great care of Squid but look after me pretty well too
(Roy cooks a mean BBQ!)
10 May 2009
Rhesfair Nerin by Sunwillow Pesaro had a
beautiful filly this morning by Sunwillow Jubilee.
She has been named Amilas Nikita and being line bred to Sunwillow Bernina
through Sunwillow Quest, Sunwillow Mutters and Sunwillow Pesaro she should
be a mare of the future.
Once again Steve, thank you for Nerin!
I was starting to think Squid has saved all the fillies and nice
colours for the visiting mares this year but I am thrilled with my two
babies.
At BSPA Area 4b Sunwillow Jubilee expertly
piloted by Rebecca Jarvis-Broad won his BSPS Heritage Ridden class,
standing reserve Champion and in the process
qualified for
The Royal International Horse Show
Woo Hoo!
Well done and thank you to Rebecca and Team.
Meanwhile ...
Squid's babies got an outing at Home Counties WPCA
News from the Ardal Stud of Joost Van Wijk in The Netherlands that
Sunwillow Mudgee has had a filly. Congratulations!
Ketchup News
I also received an e-mail from Rowan with a Ketchup update.
"He's gone from strength to strength under saddle, and is the
most bombproof of hacks! We did our first show of the season on the 19th
April and he won the lead rein class, and came 2nd in his first ever
ridden mountain and moorland class, partnered by a very nervous young lady
who was also showing for the first ever time!!!!
I couldn't stop beaming from ear to ear for about three days
afterwards!"
This one is by Sunwillow Jubilee and at
less than 1 day old is already a big strong chap
27 April 2009

Eastern Welsh Pony and Cob Show
Wow what an amazing day. Thank you to everyone who made it happen.
Firstly Norash Peek-a-Boo on an outing to gain a
bit more experience of the outside world before she is campaigned
seriously later in the season suprised us all by winning the barren mare
class.
Never one to be out done Squid on
terrific form won his Stallion class and the A championship.
Thank you so much Liesl for showing both the ponies today and for
taking such good care of Squid. Squid now goes back to his loan home with
Rebecca Jarvis-Broad for the rest of the summer where he will be shown
under saddle.
