News and Views Thank You's as 2005 draw's to a close its time to say thank you to everyone who has contributed so much this year to the success of the stud. Each year the 'team' gets larger but the contribution each person makes, from the professionals to my friends is vital and much appreciated. 25/12/05 - Ho Ho Ho MERRY CHRISTMAS. 22/12/05 - We will now have a team of mini show cobs for 2006 as someone decided the fillies needed a visit to the hairdressers and removed their manes and forelocks. Now the shock has worn off I quite like the mini cob look they are now sporting. It does mean that the bald ones will be unable to be shown next year but at least the ponies were otherwise unharmed. 02/12/05 - A whole month with no updates and still no real news. We have only one of the boys left who can be seen on the for sale page. Someone take pity on him and offer him a nice home, please. The rest have found first class homes, two going together to join a pony we sold a number of years ago, which is great. There is a new link on the navigation bar at the top of this page to some photos, this will be the project for the winter, the pony photos will be added soon. 31/10/05 - Totally irrelevant to the ponies but interesting all the same. This year sees the 400th anniversary of the Gunpowder plot. The parkland the ponies graze is part of the Gayhurst Estate, once owned by Everard Digby who was hung drawn and quartered for his part in the plot. Part of the estate was sold off to help fund it and although there is no hard evidence it is highly likely that Guy Fawkes was a visitor here.
25/09/05- Fayre Oaks Sale - Oops!!!!! Not as bad as it could have been though. I went to the sale having no intention of buying anything and even less intention of buying a pony, but having survived Saturday without a single bid, Sunday went a bit pear shaped! 18/09/05 - Some wonderful news from Julie about Watling Welsh Jack and His new owner Sandra, they went to Badgeworth EC One Day Event today and WON!!!!! Finishing on his Dressage score, next stop Badminton, not sure Badminton is ready for the 'Ginger Carthorse' though! Well done Sandra and huge hugs to Jack from all of us.
08/09/05- I have had visitors today who complained my website was getting boring as it hasn't had an update for a while, so here you go, an update! I won't have much news over the winter though so you need to get used to infrequent updates. Squid is home and settling in well with the other colts, I hope he is passing some of his luck on to next years project whilst he is out there. Its wonderful to have him home and see him relaxing and being a pony after a summer of doing absolutely everything asked of him. All the other ponies are building fat reserves and growing wooly coats for the winter. The pony that introduced me to showing was a coloured cob called Oscar and we knew it wouldn't be long before a coloured returned to our fields. It took a while to find the right pony but I think we have and hopefully, section A's permitting, we will get her to a few shows next year. I'm not looking forward to having to plait again though.
24/08/05 - Merioneth County - Well Squids season ended as it started at a show in North Wales with me at home chewing my nails and awaiting news, and like it started Squid won his class but when one better to finish the season as Section A Champion. Thank you to Coiln Tibbey for an amazing year and to Dora Jones for being kind enough to take some photos so that I could at least see what I missed! 16 - 20/08/05 - Ponies UK Summer Championships - Amilas Ty Gwyn and rider Alex Hinchley had a wonderful week having fun, getting dressed up and taking part in the evening performances. They did manage a few of the serious classes too, being placed in the Microponies and Confined Novice Kingsford finals. Thank you to Alex, Bekx and Rachel. Congratulations also to Bekx, Rebecca, Hazel, Emma and Ann on your fantastic results this week, look forward to seeing you at HOYS.
06/08/05 -15th International Welsh Show 2005 - After 'Squids' results at the Royal Welsh, I thought he had nothing left to achieve, but I was wrong. I had been planning to take something to this show since the last one in Aachen, Germany but despite this, following Squid's Royal Welsh results I was really suffering cold feet. Thanks to some persuasion by Colin Tibbey the day before he was due to set sail the decision was made for the final time and Squid made the journey to Belgium to take part in the 15th International Welsh Show. The International show is a Bi-Annual event billed as "a kind of Olympic Games for Welsh Ponies and Cobs" with ponies from all over Europe battling it out for the International titles. The UK contingent, made up from ponies from England, Wales and Scotland, included reigning and previous Royal Welsh winners, taking on the best in Europe including a French pony of the year and a Dutch pony who had taken on the Welsh on home turf and won! Unfortunately the show wasn't so great for one of the 'team' I hope everyone is fit and well soon. Thank you to both Dora Jones and Harold Zoet for stepping in for the presentations and lap of honour when Colin had to dash to the B ring. Squid had a wonderful show and I took home some very special memories, one of which was hearing the National Anthem played for us, as Squid was presented with silverware galore. This season has been unbelievable and today was the icing on the cake. Thank you to all the show organisers, sponsors and Judges and congratulations to all the prize winners. Roll on 2007 when it all happens again somewhere else (OK France)!
20/07/05 - Royal Welsh Show 2005 - THANK YOU (although those two words seem pretty inadequate for the gratitude I feel) to Colin Tibbey and the rest of 'team Tibbey' for helping to make a dream come true. Shown to beyond perfection, and with the best exhibition of showmanship I have ever witnessed that much in itself would have been plenty to make my year. The final outcome so far hasn't sunk in fully yet, and the video camera won't work so I can check it really did happen.
To have so may of my friends there, my ponies breeders (who help found this obsession), and support from unexpected places made the day even more special so Other Thank you's that need to be said go Sharon Scott and Graham Beeson of Norash Stud who traveled all the way to the show yesterday morning to support us. Phil and Sandra Pragnell, Salceyderw, John and Gail Roberts, Nantlais and Jane and Martin who have had to live with me for the past few days and Congratulations to you also for your RWAS results. Thanks also to Helen and Bekx who made me look less pathetic by crying more than me and to Leisl my fellow 'green' friend, well done with Jack. Congratulations also to Liz and Mark, Champion Sec A with Idyllic Fonteyn, Henairth Stud with Mr Milligan and Yum Yum and Harold Zoet with V.Hywel. To everyone for their well dones THANK YOU. Finally Thank you to John Jones, Nantdywyll Stud for his words of wisdom, for someone so well respected to take time to impart some was an honour in itself, I'll look after him, I promise!
16/07/05 - It was another hot day out this time at Kent County show where Sunwillow Jubilee was Reserve Section A champion and another Welshie (Sec D Mare) was sent forward to the Cuddy Final at HOYS. 09/07/05 - Amilas Ty Gwyn and Alex once again attempted the Open ridden classes this time at Lancashire WPCA being well placed in both the Novice and the Open. For a partnership still eligible for lead rein classes their consistency in the opens is a real achievement. 09/07/05 - Always my favorite show of the year the 40th Northleach Welsh breed show was no different. The new venue, although a little bit further for us to travel, was beautiful. The show was as ever well run and away from the chaos of the forthcoming Royal Welsh, the relaxed atmosphere makes it ideal for catching up with old friends. The day couldn't have got off to a better start with Marsh Coral's daughter, Southwaite Carrie winning the barren mare class for the Southwaite Stud. Thank you to everyone on the organizing committee at Northleach show for a lovely day and for the direction signs to the show and out again!
01/07/05 - Staines Melody is home. Thank you to all concerned for looking after her so well. Thank you also for the stud tour today, it was a real treat to meet a number of Welsh Pony greats and to see some of my own ponies extended family. 26/06/05 - Just to make extra sure Amilas Ty Gwyn hadn't been forgotten, Lili and Alex went to Garstang PUK show today and were placed 2nd in the Travel Extras Dalkeith Junior Ridden earning her third PUK ticket this weekend. Well done girls.
25/06/05 - NEW FOAL PHOTOS I've had a rare day at home so finally have added some new photos of our 2005 foal Amilas Chikara to her page which can be found by clicking here
19/06/05 - ARGH Colts who'd have them?! Fresh from destroying my trailer by exiting it via the grooms door, which was closed at the time, Chutney has been in trouble again. Somehow he managed to get his manhood stuck in the fence. He is very bruised but otherwise OK however I'm not sure what the people visiting the helicopter club were thinking watching me sitting on a crate in the field trying to cool the bruising with cold water! Looking on the positive side I hope this is a good omen as the last disaster prone 2yo colt was Squid!
12/06/05 - OOPs! Yesterday Chutney managed to destroy the trailer so Sandra and Phil Pragnell kindly offered to pick 'Connie the pink' and I up this morning to go to East Anglian Native. Connie wasn't anywhere near pretty enough for the judge and we ended up unplaced but she was an angel all day, hanging about outside and flew along the lorry park, moving like I have never seen her go before so worth the chaos of getting there. Well done to Tamevalley Bo Peep's connections winning the barren mare class and also to Sandra and Phil Pragnell second in the same class with Orpons Abbey.
Congratulations once again to the connections of Watling Welsh Jack. This week this versatile Welsh cob Show jumped a double clear to qualify him for the Your Horse UK Riders Challenge 2005, and for the Championship of Great Britain, not a bad days work for a 'ginger carthorse'.
13/05/05 - Royal Windsor Show. Congratulations to Tamevalley Bo-Peep's connections on her 2nd place and also to Southwaite stud with their 2nd with Southwaite Charity, grand daughter of Marsh Coral
On the good news front we have also have had news from Julie, Watling Welsh Jack's rider That Jack was a very credible 5th in his first ever One Day Event finishing on his dressage score plus a few cross country time penalties. I think Jack proves once again how versatile the Welsh Cob is. Congratulations to Sandra and Julie.
Over on this side of the country Amilas Imperial went to his first show with his new owner being placed in the Sec A gelding class at Home Counties WPCA. Well done Nikki the first of many I hope. Congratulations to Tamevallley Bo Peep, dam of Amilas Beau Brummel and Norash Peek-a-Boo, also won her class for her new owners.
04/04/05 - Our first show of the season was South of England Spring Rush
hour traffic on the M1 and M25 made the outing a bit of an ordeal but
Maggie (Amilas Mazurka) was a star and traveled really well. She did very
well in a strong yearling sec A class with a Farchynys colt by Coed Coch
Ariandy 1st and the stunning colt Rowfantina Ottoman by Roseisle
Pandytudyr ex Rowfantina Old Fashioned by CC Pernod in 2nd place (if any
lotto winners would like to buy me a pressie I'll have him please!!!)
